ArchAngel has a new title hitting shelves this week, and the studio is leading with its front-of-box art as much as the cast list. ‘A Black And White Affair’ puts contract star Kendra Lust on a cover the studio describes as artfully shot — and in the DVD business, that’s not vanity. The box is the first and sometimes only pitch a title gets to make on a crowded store shelf.
The release
You’re invited to a black and white affair and you don’t need to dress up to attend. ArchAngel’s latest film ‘ A Black And White Affair ‘ is streeting this week. Directed by MimeFreak, the artfully shot cover with Archangel Contract Star Kendra Lust and Jovan Jordan is just a taste of what’s to come. ‘ A Black And White Affair ‘ also stars Summer Brielle , ArchAngel Contract Star Jada Stevens , Amirah Adara and Teanna Trump.
” Interracial movies need to be shot well, but the cover needs to reflect what’s in the box, ” says General Manager and Director MimeFreak. ” The whole ArchAngel team worked hard on not only making the movie a true original, but also the cover. And, we’re really pleased with the result. ”
Why the cover talk isn’t just talk
MimeFreak’s quote about the box needing to “reflect what’s in the box” gets at something real about how physical releases sold. Retail buyers stocked what looked premium; renters and collectors judged unfamiliar titles by the packaging in about three seconds. Studios that invested in proper cover photography were making a bet that presentation moves units — and studios built around contract stars, the way ArchAngel is built around Lust and Stevens, had an extra reason to care, since every cover doubles as a brand portrait of the talent they’ve signed.
The two-track distribution mentioned in the announcement was standard practice for the period: press discs for the stores and collectors, then put the same catalog up on video-on-demand platforms for everyone else. One production, two audiences. You’ll find our ongoing coverage of new titles like this one in the releases hub, and more on the names attached in the performers section.
